Oil paint on canvas
24 × 24 inches

Baskets, botanicals, and fibrous materials such as jute and scrim influence my pieces, where their color, texture, and function create visual connections. These materials also indicate familiarity and personalization of spaces in the present and historically. Despite deterioration, they exist as placeholders of memory and utility, and I map and fill in my visual interpretations of them using variations of linework and geometric shapes. I use a very blue and jewel-toned palette, with repetitive brushwork that mimics the landscapes of aerial maps and blueprints. The blue draws influence from the evening’s blue hour, which follows right after golden hour, and how it carries the same ambiance despite location and time difference. My process holds equal importance to a finished piece, where my sourcing of materials and hand dexterity allow me to embody a generational craft of a labor of care.
